Inside Scoop from your Moorpark Realtor
Founded in 1900, Moorpark is a small town in Southern California that experienced rapid growth over the past decades. The population of this quaint city has increased to just over 36,000 residents, up from 4,000 back in the early 1900s. In 1887, Robert W. Poindexter was granted title to the present site of Moorpark and named it after the apricot trees which grew throughout this valley. He plotted city streets an planted Pepper Trees that are still thriving in historical downtown area as well!
It is home to award winning schools, Moorpark College and America’s Teaching Zoo. Originally home to a Chumash village called Quimisac. The Quimisac resided mostly in todays Happy Camp region where Rustic Golf Course takes up a small portion. In 1887, Robert W. Poindexter was granted title to the present site of Moorpark and named it after the apricot trees which grew throughout this valley. He plotted city streets and planted Pepper Trees that are still thriving in historical downtown area as well! The train depot that can be seen on Historical High Street was the driving force that also helped put Moorpark “on the map”.
With having a great micro climate in the winter and summer, along with being recognized as one of the safest cities in California there no surprise why Moorpark is a popular place to start a family or relocate just far enough for the hustle and bustle from Los Angeles.
